Sum of all fears car explosion.

I choose to use this You Tube clip as part of my inspiration for our film opening, because Like the way in which the character in the end dies with a bang, the car exploding, I also like the suspence that it offer because at first you think he has got away with it and then unexpectedly he lights his cigarette and that is what sets the bomb off causing the explosion compared to the other two villains who both assassinated using different methods. I also like the video clip because the way in which the villain and the butler both think the car is going to blow up so I like the way in which they both look relived when the car does not blow up when the butler turns the ignition, Also like the way in which the assassin get his cigarette out because he is relived and that is what kills him,and that is the reason I like the clip because it is unexpected.

The Dark knight interigation

I choose to use this youtube clip becuase I like the character the Joker becuase the costume he wears and the appereernce of him is brillaint in my opinion. I also choose it because it has given me ainspiration for one the film opening characters, because I think it would be good use somme ideas to give a clear idea for the charactersin the film opening. Ilso like it because the type of film opening I am aiming for needs to have a villain. So from the clip it has given me soem ideas for the villian.

Insiration for movie opening videos

I choose this video becuase I the actual movie and I think that It would be a good idea to use got our film opening becuase the camera shots that are used are good becuase it uses most of them in this scene i laos like the story line of clip.I like this clip becuse it has good possible ideas that we could use for our film opening. I also like the genre of the clip which is action thriller which is one of my favourite genre for movies.

Orginally for our film opening we were going to use some of ideas that shooter has becuase at the time we felt that it would be a godd film to use as inspiration, but as tiem went on we all felt that it may to be to complicated to try an incorparate some of ideas used in the opening scene.

Shameless

Shameless

The characters in shameless are represented to us the audience in different ways for example Fiona comes across to me as bit of a tart because of the way she dresses and the way she acts in the club with her friend, also the fact that she has sex with Steve the same night that she meets him. I also fell that she is a bit of a chave because of where she lives and I think that the director wanted to show us this because at the beginning of a scene the camera focuses on the outside of the house in which we can see the surrounding area which looks like a council estate which is normally where the majority of chaves live. I also feel that the mise en sense tells us the audience allot about the lifestyle she lives in because the interior of the house shows that the family has little money because the house had bland colours which represents depression which is what Fiona’s life seems to be like. Other evidence that shows that she has not got much money is that fact that when she phones Steve she has to phone him from a cafe which shows she does not have home phone or a mobile, whereas Steve phones her on a mobile which shows that they belong to two different social groups.

In comparison to Fiona Steve’s life style is different in many ways but also similar in other ways. Steve is different to Fiona in the fact that he looks more well of than Fiona and her family, the reason I this is because when he has two decent cars which shows he must have allot of money. Other reasons that suggest that Steve a fair bit of money is that he buys a new washing machine for Fiona and her family because when he is around their house he sees that the washing machine is rubbish and we know this because the camera actually zooms in on it. In a way I also think that Steve is also a bit of chave purely for the reason that he nicks cars instead of selling for a living which was unexpected because up until the point he admits he steals cars this then makes him look more like Fiona’s family whereas before he seemed like a normal person but then we find out what he is really like as a character.

Ian is represented to us the audience as a typical teenage boy in the way that he dresses and what his room looks like, however we find out that he is gay because his brother Lip finds a gay magazine hidden in their room which shows that Ian is keeping his sexuality a secret other wise he would not hide the magazine how ever as the series progresses he seems to become more confident about being gay by standing up to his brother whereas before he was too scared to stick up for himself. We also find out that he is a bit confused about whether he is gay or not because he goes to his brothers female friend who gives it to him which shows that he must be slightly confused other wise he would not do it. How ever we know that he is not turned on by the female because his brothers ask his mate did Ian get a hard on and she says no which shows he must be gay. Other evidence that backs up Ina is gay is that he has sex with an older man at work who is married and has kids, this shows that Ian is not afraid to be gay other wise he would not have sex in the shop. As well as that when he goes to get veronicas cigarettes from her room he sees her boyfriend sleeping naked and has a good look at him, which shows us that he is not afraid to look at men in that way.

From the episode of shame less we find out lip is a typical teenager in that way that he acts what he likes to do such as he goes to his female friend to help her with her biology homework and as payment she gives him one. Also when this happens the camera focuses on Lips reaction which shows he enjoys it. Where as his brother Ian did not. Other evidence that shows he is atypical teenager is the attitude he has toward Steve in the house which is being cocky like most teenagers are .We also know that he cares about his brother because when he finds out about Ian being gay he says to Ina why didn’t you tell me also the fact that he tries to help Ian by sending him to his female friend to see weather he really is gay

Distributing and marketing

The term above the line and below the line when talking about advertising is that above line is that you can’t not escape for example magazines because you are likely to see them in shops even if you are not looking for them, where as below the line is all the advertising strategies that you will not necessarily see unless you were actually looking for it for example the internet because it will only appear if you type it in on a search engine.

The strategies that the Holly Wood film 2012 uses to market the film are making a trailer that they will have either at the cinema or on the TV from which they will be able to attract more people’s attention which is one of the biggest ways of advertising new movies. Other strategies that 2012 uses. The company who produced the film $200,0000 on making the film however about 50 % of the gross revenue they make

Working Title and Warp Films Institution and Audiences

Working Title and Warp Films

Institution and Audiences

AOs

Production Practices to appeal to audiences

Distribution and Marketing strategies to raise audience awareness

New technologies to help target specific audiences

Audience and how they challenge institutions

1. Who are Working Title

Working title are a company who produce films they are also part of a conglomerate, they’re parent companies are Universal Studios and BBC Films. Working Title have a high budget due to being owed by BBC Films and Universal Studios.

Who are Warp Films?

Warp Films are film producers. They are an independent company which have small budgets

They are a sister company to Warp Records, which are a company who produce Music

2. How does the ownership of the company affect the budgets for film?

The ownership effects the budgets in a big way because Working Title are Co-owned by Universal Studios and BBC Films so these have a large budget compared to Warp Films who have a small budget, They are an independent Business.

3. Create a list of films that both institutions have produced.

Warp

• This is England

• Bunny and the bull

• Hush

Working Title

• Ali G indahouse

• Hot Fuzz

• Robin Hood (1991)

• Nottinghill

• Jonny English

4. Choose one from each list and compare the budgets for these films and how much they made.

This is England Hot Fuzz

Budget £1,500,000 £8 Million / $16 million

Gross Revenue $8,069,240 $80,573,774

Studio’s Warp Working Title

5. Now choose a Hollywood Blockbuster and research the budget.

Pirates of the Caribbean at Worlds End

Budget: $300 Million

Revenue: $960 996 492

Studio: Walt Disney Pictures

6. Where do Working Title and Warp Films get their funding from?

Warp films got their early stage funding from Nesta (National Endownment for Science, Technology and Art.)

Working Title are funded by BBC Films and Universal Studios which are Based in America. Where as Working Films are based in England along with BBC Films

7. In the case of Warp Films, how does the budget affect the genre they use?

Warp films tend to produce Horror or Comedy films due to the risk assessment and the high possibility of not selling the film to the wide range of public which Comedy and Horror films capture, whereas Drama films have a smaller audience, Compared to Working Title who have a larger Audience. This means that due to the risk of producing a drama they tend to attempt to make the most of their budget and produce Comedy or Horror films because they hit a wider range of a bull’s eye.

8. What is the main appeal of this genre? Give examples.

The main appeal of this genre is that people like to be scared and to be made to laugh because they are more entertaining films than Drama Feature films, for example Shaun of the Dead and Saw 1.

9. Who are the target audience for Working Title and Warp Films?

Working Title has a target audience which ranges from young children (U) to over eighteens (18). Warp films have a similar

10. What is the main genre of the films Working Title produce?

The main genre of films that working titles produce mainly comedy such as Hot fuzz and Shaun of the dead, they also produce quite allot of horror film such as Saw

About Me

Check out this SlideShare Presentation:

The royal Tenabaus

In media me and my class watched the royal Tenabaus and were asked to write about one of the three children, we had to write about their representation, I decided to write about Riche because I felt that out of the three characters he would be the most relatable.

In the opening clip of the film I found out that Richie is the favourite child because in the clip we see him go out on Saturdays with his dad gambling with his dad mates, and the narrator says that this invite was never extends to anyone else. We also find out he is the favourite child because his. This shows us that he has a good relationship with his dad because of the amount of time that they spend together. Other evidence that suggests that he is the favourite child is when his dad shoots his brother Chas who is on his team , this happens when they are at their grandmother house , this shows that he brother Chas is not liked as much by his dad as Richie. Other evidence that I picked up from the clip tat shows he is the favourite child is the amount of toys and luxuries he has compared to his step sister Margot and his brother Chas for example he has:

· HMA radio

· drum set

· collection of cars

This shows us the audience that he is the favourite because when the clip shows Chas and Margot they don’t have any thing, but when it gets to Richie it shows all his toys and gadgets.

From the opening scene we also find out allot about Richie as person for example we find out that he likes painting because we see him painting in most of clips of him which shows that he has an interest in art but the narrator says but he failed as an artist, a lot of his painting are of his step sister Margot which shows that he cares for her because he don’t care for her then he wouldn’t paint pictures of her he also has a room just for his painting which shows his passion for painting.

We also learn that Richie is a champion tennis player since the forth grade and became a professional at the age of 17 which shows he must of been young when he started playing tennis, he also one the national US open two years running. This shows us the audience that he must be a committed person to be able to win the US open two years running.

We find out that he has a good relationship with his step sister Margot, because they both run away together to the west with of the archives for two weeks, camping under a museum presentation, they managed to survive on root beers and crackers.

The clothes he wears show that he enjoys sport because he wears tennis clothing such as the head band, tennis shorts, etc. The clothes he wears also shows us that he has a passion for tennis otherwise he would not dress as a tennis player all the time. He also wears a jacket when he goes out with his dad which shows that he likes too look smart when he goes out with his dad.

We also find out that Richie has a best friend called Eli Cash who lives across the road from the Tenabaus, however he spends most of his time at the Tenabaus house. This shows us that he and Riche are best friends because of the amount time spend together.

We also find out that Richie is well educated because in the opening scene we sea him reading a book with his mum and sister, we know that he is reading to learn because the narrator says that their mother kept the house after the separation of her and her husband and that her highest priority was the children’s education

Prelim storyboard

This is a story board that I created as part of our preliminary this was needed before we could film because this told us what will happen in every shot and the camera shots that we would use, the story board was also used because it means that we would have a plan to stick rather than just filming and making it up as we go along. The story board also helped me get a better idea of what would happen so that I am able to imagine what would happen in the clip helping me to understand much more.

Prelimanary video by Damon and Nick

This is our finished video for our preliminary task that we had to produce. The task that we were asked to produce was a short video that involved somebody opening a door then walking across a room and then having a short conversation with someone else I thought that the video did not go so well because the continuity was poor which made the end product disappointing.

Movie clip used for inperation for prelim video

Prelim evaluation

For our project me and my class were asked to produce a video of somebody going through a door and having a conversation, we were also asked to produce a magazine cover of our own choice. For this task were asked to work in pairs, I choose to work with Nick Emmerson. Me and Nick were able to manage the task well because we are close friends so we were able communicate with each other effectively which meant that we could get on and do the task well. Me and Nick also managed to get allot of the work done in our free time because mine and Nick’s free periods are at the same time which made it easier.
In order for us to produce the magazine and the video we had to plan what we were going to do, for our planning we drew on paper what our magazine cover would look like so that we could then copy that when we produced the a magazine we knew exactly what to do. For our video we planned it as a storyboard which showed all the camera angles that we were going to use for the video. The inspiration that we used to help us come up with ideas for our magazine cover was football magazines because me and Nick have an interest in football so we thought it would be a good idea to base our magazine on football we looked at a range of different magazines so that we could get some inspiration for ours, we thought that the image used in our magazine was good and relevant for a football magazine because quite a few magazines we found used a similar image so we knew that the picture would look good enough for a football magazine. The inspiration that we used to help us create our film was.
The technology that we used to help us complete our prelim task of creating a school magazine cover was:
· Photoshop
· Computer, mouse and key board
· Digital camera
We used photo shop to assist us in making the front cover of a magazine. The reason we used photo shop for the magazine is because the software allows us to manipulate photos that we have taken for example you can cut around the picture and then put it onto a blank background with out having the background which was on the original photo. Other technology that we used to help us complete our magazine cover was a normal computer which had photo shop installed on it other wise with out the computer we would not be able to use the programme. We also used a digital camera to take the pictures of a friend of ours who we got to balance a football on his head so that he looked like a footballer which is what we were aiming for.
The technology that we used to help us complete our movie of walking through the door was slightly different to the technology used for the magazine front cover. As you can see below I have listed all the technology used for the task:
· Video camera with a DV tape ,tripod and a fire wire to download the footage onto the Mac
· Mac
We used a video camera to record our footage because it was the best form of technology that we had available to complete task. We also used a video camera because we both felt that it would give us the best result and also the fact that it is designed to film footage. The reasons listed above are the only real reasons that we used the video camera and how we used the camera is pretty straight forward because as I said above we used it record footage which we then went and edited
The reason we used a Mac was so that we could use I movie which is a programme that is built in we used this software because it allows us to edit the footage that we gathered for example we added titles to the footage so that it looked like a proper film it also allowed us to combine all the footage together so that when played all the footage is all one and plays as one.
During the task set I and Nick had to take in to consideration all the factors that could occur when planning, shooting and editing because if not the we may not achieve a decent result because we would of not considered carefully, to do this I and Nick looked at what we would need to consider for shooting then when that was complete we moved on to planning and then finally editing the reason for this is because we though we would cover all the factors better if we did one at a time so that we not miss any that we needed to consider.
From our discussion we came up with that for our planning stage for the magazine we would need to make sure that we drew out on paper a rough sketch of what we thought our magazine would look like so that we knew exactly what we were going to produce so we decided that we would need to have a planning lessen and then and then have a making lesson which would be when we actually make the magazine using our plan. During our planning we needed to take into account when our friend was free so that we could take a photo of him so we needed to make sure that the day we make the magazine cover is the day he is free to have his photo taken.
The factors that we needed to consider when planning the film were that we needed to plan was the shoots that were going to use so that when it came to filming we knew exactly what we were doing rather than making the shots up as we go along. So make sure we know what shots we were doing we did a storyboard of each shot which we annotated saying what would happen in that shot and what speech if any would be said. During the planning stage we also took in consideration how long it would take to film so that we did not plan to do things at the wrong times, so we estimated that it would take us one lesson to plan and produce the story board a lesson to so the filming and a final lesson to do the editing. We also came up with another factor which was the location of where we could film because we needed to make sure that the location would be suitable for filming and also if the location was free on the day we had planned to film.
For shooting of our film to come up with several factors that would need to be considered during the filming stages of the video such as:
· Lighting
· The right camera shots
· What speech will be said
When we were shooting we had to consider the lighting because if the lighting was too dark then we would not have very good footage which means that when we play it back it would be too hard for the target audience to see what is really going on however we also realised that the lighting must not be to bright because then it is hard for the camera to focus on the characters or the object that they are trying to capture. As well as that it would be too hard for the target audience to take in the full detail because it will be too bright and too hard to see what is going on so the lighting needs to have a balance of bright and dark to give a suitable contrast.
We when shooting our short footage I and Nick knew that we had to take into account weather the right camera shots are being used at the right time in order to have the best footage possible, and we also needed to make sure that we were using the required shots such as the close up of hand on the door as the character opens the door. When shooting we had to make sure that after every shot we positioned the next shot with every thing the same so that when played through the mise en sense is not different in each shot.
When filming we needed to consider what speech would be said in each of the shots and how we would film it because we needed to have a shot reverse shot in the scene so it would be best used during a conversation. Also we needed to make sure that what speech is said makes sense and is relevant to what is going on in the scene also the sound needs loud so that when played back the audience can hear what the character is saying and also that their speech is slurred and is clear.
During the preliminary task I felt that the sequence that we followed was good because as a whole I and Nick were pleased with the out come of the magazine because it looked like a school Magazine because of the image and colours used we thought were good, and we asked one of our teachers what they thought and ways that we could improve it and we followed their advices on a few areas that were weak. The aspects of the magazine cover that we thought worked well was the colours used and the picture used, the reason we thought this was because the colours especially7 the orange is eye catching and stands out and made me want to read more. The picture was definitely worked well because it something a bit different and looks really good on the front cover because it really blended in well with all the other elements of the magazine. If I was to make the magazine again I would improve some bits and do some of the elements slightly differently. I would improve the text used because I felt that some of it was rushed because we were unable to think of really good text so we thought okay text but it could have been better and to make sure I did I would spend more time thinking of better text before I started the magazine. Apart from changing the text I wouldn’t change anything else because nothing really needed changing in my opinion. The aspects that I would do differently if I was asked to make the magazine cover again I would make sure that the plan was more detailed and explained every thing that needed to be done rather than rushing it like we did in our original which is why we struggled with our text because we had not thought thoroughly enough during our plan so we rushed it towards the end because were running out of time.
After completing the preliminary task I have learnt how to use photo shop in more depth because before the task I was not very confident with the programme but as the task progressed I have learnt how use it more than previously. I the one thing that I have learnt the most in photo shop is the cutting around the shape which the Lassue magnet which I really struggled to use before the task but I have practised and am now able to use it well. I also feel that I have learnt how to use I movie in more depth because again before the task I struggled to get to grips with it, however know I have more confidence and able to do allot more than previously such as adding different effects to the footage such as the titles at the beginning and the end. From the task I also learnt how to cut different sections a clip so that the continuality flows well form one clip to anther. During this task I have also leant that when filming you need to make sure that when filming different clips you need to make sure that on the next clip all the characters and other props are in the same place when you film the next clip so that the continuity is smooth which makes it easier to edit. So after the task I have learnt this because during the task we did not do this very well and only after we realised that it was not very good, so I have learnt that it is important factor when filming.
From what I have learnt form this task I will use these experiences to help me do better in the rest of my foundation course work because next tie mi will take what I have learnt and it apply it to the next task that I will be given so that the out come of the next task will be much improved. During the next task will make sure that when filming I plan properly and make sure that I make sure that the continuity is allot better because if I’m honest the video we produced was very poor and I would need to improve allot if I am required to do another video

Evaluation of practise for media

Magazine

In media we were asked to find a magazine cover on the internet and to then try and recreate the magazine by taking our own photos and then using photo shop to create the magazine.

The magazine cover that I and my group created followed magazine convention which was the mid shot of Messi. Also the colours used are a magazine convention because very few colour used because a magazine is only supposed to have two or three main colour on the font cover of a magazine. The colours used in our magazine are yellow and black. The magazine also follows the mater head which should go across the whole page, which our magazine does

The cover lines used in the magazine entice the audience because the words used are eye catching which makes the reader want to read more so if the cover lines are small and not worded very well then this will not encourage the audience to read more so the cover lines need to be good, I feel that the cover lines used in our magazine are eye catching because it has offers on the cover which a lot of people may want to look into the offers that are advertised, so the cover lines work quite well

The colour pallet used in the magazine suits the target audience because the colours used are colours that are used a lot in football for example the green which represents the grass on a football pitch. Black and yellow are used in the front cover because the black stands out which makes it more attractive also the yellow makes the cover more warm because yellow is a hot colour whereas the black is a cold colour so it has warm and cold colours

I feel that our created magazine cover would probably only interest regular readers or subscribers, or it might interest football fans because it is a football magazine so it would attract fans of the game. I know that the magazine would appeal to fans and regular readers because the main picture used is one of Lionel Messi who is a footballer for Barcelona, so it would not appeal to somebody who does not know who he is

Having created a magazine cover I have learnt that it is important make sure that all the writing used is eye catching to the reader because if not then it would not attract reader have also learnt that creating a front cover takes a lot of time to plan because if planning is not done correctly then it effect the out come because I felt that we did not plan in enough detail which has lead to the cover not being as good as it could be.

Film

In media me and my group Nick and Paul were asked to recreate a scene as best as possible from a begging scene in East Enders our task was to watch the opening clip and to then go off in our groups and to film the scene, we had one lesson to film and one lesson to edit the film. I Paul and Nick decided to film the opening scene in Auburn place because the scene that we had to recreate was inside the Queen Vick so we thought ours would have to be inside as well.

The scene that we had to film was typical of TV soap because in the scene that we had to recreate It, the reason for this is because the scene is of a typical morning in a home, this is typical of a soap because soaps are basically filming peoples daily lives within a community so this scene shows the Mitchell family in the morning which relates to their daily lives.

The camera angles used in the opening scene of East enders were a close up of the ringing phone also a moving shot is used when the camera moves away form the phone and into a close up of Peggy Mitchell. Another camera shot used is the conversation shot which is used for the conversation between Peggy and Phil in the kitchen. A wide angle shot is used in the scene when Peggy walks into the lounge to wake up the jade and Billy.

Our recreation of the East Enders opening scene went fairly well because I felt that we took time to make sure that we took time setting up the scene for example for the phone part we blue tack a mobile phone on to the wall. I also thought that the location of where our recreation took place because we looked at all the possible location and then choose the best one. We choose the location in Auburn Place because it allowed us to be able to make the best possible recreation.

The successes of our filming that I thought was the actual location of the filming because it looked similar to what we were trying to recreate, I also felt that our team work as group was a success because we agreed with each other most of the time, which then allowed us to actually produce the filming a lot faster. The Failings of our project that I felt was the editing because we struggled to understand how to use it which then resulted in us not having such a good finished product. I also felt that we could have put more time into filming because I felt that in some parts we rushed the filming due to in patience which then did not look so good when we played it back.

When we filmed our opening scene of East Enders we did not really think about lighting, and I felt that it was not very effective because as I said we did not consider lighting for some reason, however the footage that we produced did not seem to lack lighting. The only lighting that we used was the actual lights in the hall way. However next time I will make a note of considering the lighting.

During our film I have learnt bit more than I already knew about mise en sense which is basically every thing that you can see in the frame, I learnt that when making a film it is important to make sure what is in the frame is what you want not just there for no reason, and in our film I tried to incorporate this theory but I felt that our mise en sense could have been better if we had more time and a budget to work to but unfortunately we did not have either so we had to make the best.

From our film production I felt that I have learnt allot about continuity and why it is important because I have learnt that with out good continuity the end result is very poor because the footage does not flow together so it does not look. I have learnt that continuity can be made better by editing frottage because on the MACS it allowed us to manipulate our footage which improved the continuity.

In the film project I felt that the film part was good because I had no real problems apart form getting the right shots in some areas, but apart form that it went well as whole, however I feel that my editing techniques need to improve because I was not familiar with the software at first due to lack of practise. So to improve these techniques I will spend time using the software so that I am very familiar with it so that next time I am able to produce better results

Finally having gained experience in creating a print based product and a moving image product I feel that the moving object is the one that I feel the most confident doing because I found it easier to produce than the print based object because I still struggle to use photo shop well which as a result my magazine cover was not very good, however the film was a lot more easier to produce but it still had its difficulties such as getting the right shots in the film also the editing part because I have not had much experience editing on the Macs so I found it difficult at first but slowly got slightly more confident towards the end having had some practise time
